Instructor Bio

After retiring from Murray State University in 2012 I knew I was ready for a new chapter in life -- to pursue other interests and passions. I had begun running in 2008 and had finished strong in several half marathon races. While working at Murray State, I had taken belly dance classes for four years when one of my teachers convinced me to begin teaching in Paris, TN. Through running and belly dance, I realized what the next chapter of my life would be. I wanted to focus on being as healthy as I could be and encourage others to find an enjoyable way to become more physically fit. Realizing that belly dance and running might not be for everyone, I thought Zumba may be the answer.

Zumba helps with cardio-vascular health, it strengthens muscles, particularly the core, and it helps with flexibility and balance. It’s exercise in disguise because it’s FUN! In addition to exercising the body, it also keeps the mind active and improves mood. As a former licensed professional counselor at Murray State, positive mental health is so important to me and I aim to find healthy ways for myself and others to combat sadness, loneliness, stress, and anxiety – Zumba helps! I wholeheartedly believe that it’s good for the mind, body, and soul. I want people to try it and see for themselves.

I had participated in Zumba classes but never actually considered teaching. Then, I thought…why not? I’m energetic, enthusiastic, and a teacher. So, in October 2014, I became certified in Zumba and Zumba Gold. Later, I added Zumba Toning certification.

Maybe, you believe exercise is important but struggle with being consistent. I urge you to try Zumba. Often, when I invite others to join me, they tell me they aren’t coordinated and can’t or don’t dance. I honestly believe that there is a dancer within each of us—men and women alike. I would love to have a chance to free you—to “release the beast.” Besides, Zumba is dance fitness; it’s more about moving than anything. I urge you to consider and hopefully commit to dancing regularly with me as we endeavor to be healthier, happier, more flexible, balanced, and stronger. I add variety to each class by incorporating light weights and drumsticks—never a dull moment I assure you. Come and dance your way to better health, physically and emotionally. I believe Zumba can make a positive difference in your life. I can do Zumba at home but it’s so much more fun when I have friends join me as we support each other on our journey to having stronger, healthier minds and bodies.

Why not give Zumba a try? You never know… it may turn out to be just what you’ve been looking for to be motivated to exercise. If you have questions, please contact me. I hope to see YOU soon!
